Our story

Back in Line Chiropractic didn’t start in New Zealand. It started in a small treatment room inside Shaw Hill Golf & Country Club in Whittle-le-Woods, Chorley, in the UK.

That first clinic, Back in Motion, was built from scratch. No patient list, no shortcuts. Just long days, a growing reputation, and a simple focus: help people properly and they’ll come back.

Alongside building the clinic, Gordon worked in professional football, spending time with Bolton Wanderers and Preston North End from 2000, and later with Everton FC from 2003 to 2006. That environment helped shape a practical, results-driven approach to treatment and rehabilitation that still underpins the clinics today.

From the beginning, this has been a true partnership. Jill wasn’t just part of the clinic—she was integral to it. As a massage therapist, she helped build the hands-on, patient-focused environment that defined Back in Motion, and was often the glue that held everything (and everyone) together.

As demand grew, so did the clinic. We moved above the local chemist in Whittle-le-Woods, then into a purpose-built clinic in Buckshaw Village. Over time, Back in Motion became a well-established, respected practice with a strong community following.

But life doesn’t stand still.

We made the decision to move our family to New Zealand, trading Lancashire for the Coromandel. Starting again—again—wasn’t exactly the easy option, but it was the right one.

In Tairua, Back in Line Chiropractic was born. Same principles, same standards, just a different coastline. Jill expanded her skillset further in New Zealand, training in yoga and bringing that into the clinic approach—adding another layer to how we help people move and function better.

A few years later, we expanded, purchasing the Whangamatā clinic—now over a decade ago—and building it into the practice it is today.

Across both countries and multiple clinics, the core hasn’t changed:

  • Treat people like individuals

  • Use evidence-based care

  • Focus on getting people back to doing what matters

No gimmicks. No nonsense. Just good care, done properly.

People and culture

We’ve built a team that blends clinical experience with a broader approach to movement, recovery, and long-term health.

Every practitioner here is chosen not just for their skills, but for how they think, communicate, and care for the people they work with.
